Tottenham Hotspur signed Xavi Simons during the summer transfer window after the player was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

Ali Barat, who represents Xavi Simons, has now opened up on the failed move to Chelsea and revealed that both clubs are fantastic destinations, but the Tottenham project seemed ideal for the Netherlands international.

Ali Barat said via Sky Sports, “Tottenham and Chelsea are both fantastic clubs with solid projects, and there was real interest from both sides,” said Simons’ agent Ali Barat to reporters.

“But Chelsea was always clear with us; they had certain constraints that made it difficult to move forward with discussions. So when the talks with Tottenham started, it became clear that this would be a project that would be a perfect fit for Xavi.”

The 22-year-old is highly rated across Europe, and he should prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Tottenham. Spurs needed a dynamic attacker like Xavi Simons who is capable of operating centrally as well as on the flanks. He will help create opportunities for his teammates and find the back of the net as well.

Can Simons make his mark in England?

Xavi Simons has proven himself in Germany, and he has the ability to do well in the Premier League as well. It will be interesting to see if he can make an instant impact and help Tottenham improve going forward. They will look to build on the UEFA Europa League-winning campaign from last season and push for trophies once again.

Tottenham have made a good start to the season, and Thomas Frank is managing to get the best out of his players. The Danish manager will hope to guide them to a trophy this season, and quality signings like Simons could make a huge difference for them as the season progresses.

The 22-year-old is regarded as an elite talent, and he could develop into a world-class player. Tottenham have paid a premium for him, but they will hope that he can fulfil his potential and justify the investment in the near future. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be disappointed to have missed out on a quality attacking player like him.
