Manchester United signed Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in the summer transfer window, and he has been backed for success.
Hatayspor technical director Volkan Demirel has now heaped praise on Manchester United summer signing Altay Bayindir. Demirel believes that the 25-year-old goalkeeper is likely to improve in the Premier League and he could develop into a key player for the Red Devils.
He said, relayed by TRT Haber, “Altay was an asset for Fenerbahçe. Ugurcan is the same way. Irfan is also doing well. I am happy that Altay has gone to Manchester but sad that he left Fenerbahçe. English football will take him to the next level.”
Manchester United signed Andre Onana during the summer transfer window as well, and the former Inter Milan goalkeeper is currently the first-choice shot-stopper at the club. It will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old Turkish goalkeeper can compete with him for the starting spot in the coming weeks.
Onana has looked vulnerable at times, and Bayindir will fancy his chances of displacing him as the regular starter. The competition for places will help both players improve, and it will benefit Manchester United as a team.
Meanwhile, Demirel also believes that the departure of Bayindir will be a loss for Turkey and Fenerbahce. However, he is confident that the 25-year-old will thrive in English football. Bayindir is still quite young, and he is only going to get better with coaching experience.
It remains to be seen whether he can hit the ground running in the Premier League. He is unlikely to get too many opportunities to prove himself, especially with Onana at the club. So, he will have to grab his chances when they come along.
The Cameroon international goalkeeper has conceded some questionable goals so far. So, he might have to improve his performance if he wants to hold on to a regular starting spot. If he continues to make mistakes in the coming weeks, Erik ten Hag could be forced to consider Bayindir as a starter.
Manchester United parted ways with David de Gea and Dean Henderson this summer, and they have brought in the likes of Onana and Bayindir as replacements. It remains to be seen whether they can live up to the expectations and help Manchester United compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
