Virgil van Dijk makes Kevin De Bruyne claim

Virgil van Dijk claimed he would have loved to have Kevin de Bruyne at Liverpool, admitting the Belgian would have helped the club to win more.

Of all the clubs, Chelsea will be rueing their decision to sell Kevin De Brune when he was a developing player to Wolfsburg. The Belgian produced some scintillating football in Germany, earning a high-profile move to Manchester City, and the rest is history.

De Bruyne has won multiple Premier League titles and domestic honours but never the Champions League. The European trophy has eluded Manchester City while going close to achieving it back in 2021, losing the Chelsea in the Final.

While he has been at Manchester City, Liverpool have proved able contenders for domestic honours. The Reds have been their formidable opponents over the years, marshalled by Virgil van Dijk at the back. Like De Bruyne, The Dutchman had had a similar impact at Anfield.

While Liverpool have won the Premier League title only once since Van Dijk joined, they have claimed the Champions League in 2019. The Dutch centre-back claimed their fortunes might have changed had De Bruyne been playing with them at Anfield.

In his comments on Sky Sports show Overlap, Van Dijk insisted Liverpool might have achieved more with De Bruyne in their team.

Van Dijk said, “Someone that I’ve never played with before but would love at Liverpool is Kevin De Bruyne. He’s unbelievable, and if he would’ve played at Liverpool, we would’ve gone even further than what we have done. He’s outstanding, good on the ball, he presses high, scores plenty of goals, and has every attribute of a modern-day midfielder and footballer in general.”

Liverpool have fallen off the perch this season, losing many games and dropping valuable points. There might be a chance to halt the slump when Jurgen Klopp’s men face Tottenham on Sunday.

Manchester City and De Bruyne remain firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title and finished their Champions League group as winners. They will face Fulham on Saturday and hope to get ahead of Arsenal, albeit temporarily.
