Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has now sent out a warning to his teammates in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
Virgil van Dijk has warned the Liverpool players not to lose their way like Manchester City because it would be difficult to get the season back on track again, citing the example of the Premier League champions, who have not been able to get back to their best so far.
Liverpool are currently on top of the Premier League table, but the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are breathing down their necks. They need to continue their impressive start of the season to win the title. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain their recent performance levels. They were held to withdraw against Fulham at the weekend, and the players will certainly be disappointed to drop two points at home.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes that the increased number of fixtures and injuries could make it difficult for the players in the coming months, but they will need to cope with the situation situation or they could risk Liverpool’s season getting derailed.
“It’s a lot of games and injuries are bound to happen and that could change the quality of games,” said the Liverpool captain (h/t Mirror). “What they’ve been going through with injuries and inconsistent games, going up and down, we’ve been there as well and it’s not an easy place to get out of and it’s not an easy place to be in.
“I won’t speak about them because I don’t focus on them, but I know how difficult it is to go through that and hopefully we don’t go through it, but we also have injuries. Whether that’s because of the load and all the games you don’t know, but obviously it plays a big part because it takes a lot out of your body, not only playing the game, but the travelling, flying around the world. But that’s football for 2024-25, so you have to deal with it.”
Can Liverpool succeed this season?
Liverpool have a quality team at their disposal, and it will be interesting to see if they can take advantage of Manchester City’s vulnerabilities and win the league this season. The Reds have done exceptionally well in the UEFA Champions League as well, and they are on top of the standings in the European competition. It will be interesting to see if they can win major trophies under new manager Arne Slot.
