Raheem Sterling is currently on the lookout for a new club, and he was recently offered to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin.
However, the director of Bundesliga club Union Berlin has confirmed that they decided not to pursue a bargain move for Raheem Sterling.
The England international is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Chelsea. The £50 million move to the West London club did not work out, and it makes sense for him to move on. It will be interesting to see if he can find a new destination soon.
Horst Heldt confirmed exclusively to Sky, “Sometimes you have to rub your eyes (…) In this case, it didn’t really seem serious. We didn’t pursue it any further.”
Union Berlin could use an experienced attacker like him, but they have decided not to take up the opportunity to sign him. The opportunity move to Germany could have been an interesting option for Raheem Sterling.
The Englishman has proven himself in the Premier League over the years, and he could be open to taking on a new challenge at this stage of his career. It remains to be seen whether he can find a club willing to provide him with an exit route.
Sterling needs the right move
Raheem Sterling will want to play regularly at this stage of his career. Sitting on the bench at Chelsea would not have benefited him, and therefore, the two parties decided to terminate the contract mutually.
The 31-year-old will hope to compete at a high level regularly to cement his place in the England national team for the upcoming World Cup. Moving to the Bundesliga would have helped him a lot. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
There is no doubt that the Englishman is a quality player with extensive experience. He has not been able to reach top form in recent years, especially since leaving Manchester City. The right team could bring out the best in him once again.
He is a dynamic attacker who can slot into multiple attacking roles. If the experienced attacker regains his form and confidence, he could be an asset to most teams. Paul Merson has recently urged Sterling to join Tottenham Hotspur.
