Troy Parrott casts doubt on Tottenham Hotspur future

Troy Parrott remains unsure about what will happen to his Tottenham future as he returns from an impressive loan spell at Excelsior.

Troy Parrott has never got that big a chance to shine at Tottenham, as Harry Kane used to occupy his position for a long time. This season, he might have felt the need to either get guarantees or move away from the club, at least on a loan spell, which he did after joining Eredivisie side Excelsior.

He might have stayed put at Tottenham and provide the side with a secondary strike option if needed. However, the arrival of Argentine talent Alejio Veliz might have helped Parrott make up his mind about a departure. In truth, the decision to go out on loan may have worked out well for all parties, with Spurs likely to evaluate his future after an impressive season in the Netherlands.

Parrott scored 13 times and provided 5 assists across 30 games in all competitions for Excelsior, which has generated interest from Ajax and PSV Eindhoven ahead of the summer. Now, it’s up to the 22-year-old Tottenham academy graduate to decide on his future alongside his club about the next chapter of his career.

Parrott has now commented on his future situation to Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur. He claimed no decision was made and that he’s unclear about what might happen next. He did reiterate his desire to play more prominently for Spurs, as it has been his dream to do so.

Parrott said, “I don’t know exactly what will happen. I have two more matches here and then maybe international matches, but I’m looking forward to next season. “I’ve always wanted that, ever since I came to the UK as a boy.”

Some reports early on stated that Tottenham were ready to cash in on Parrott after his impressive displays with Excelsior. However, there have been some contradictions, as Spurs might also consider keeping him ahead of the new season and testing his character in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Spurs have been looking at young strikers like Kevin Denkey, among others, which does indicate their need for talent that could play a secondary role. However, Parrott is at an age and stage of his career that might demand regular playing time, something Postecoglou might not guarantee him ahead of the new season.
