Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has faced severe criticism for failing to score goals consistently since his big-money move from Everton.

Tony Cascarino has suggested on talkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur will need to replace Richarlison if they want to win the Premier League title this season.

“I think they can be (in the title race) if they can hang in there until Christmas and then make a signing that adds even more to their forward line. I think it’s inevitable. Unless Richarlison finds a period to his game that’s much improved and takes him to a different level. He’s the one that’s vulnerable in that forward line where you’re thinking there has to be more from him,” Cascarino said.

The Brazilian striker has been largely underwhelming since his £60 million move to Tottenham, and he has not been able to score goals consistently. He scored just three goals across all competitions last season and has found the back of the net twice this season.

For the money they paid, Spurs would have expected a much better performance. But it remains to be seen whether Richarlison, who was a target for Saudi Arabian clubs in the summer, can get back to his best soon.

Tottenham sold Harry Kane this past summer, and they need their attackers to step up and deliver consistently. Richarlison was expected to step up and fill the void left by the England international. But his performances have been rather underwhelming.

Son Heung-min has had to lead the line for Tottenham since the departure of Harry Kane. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to invest in a quality goalscorer when the transfer window reopens in January.

They have been linked with players like Victor Osimhen and Jonathan David. Spurs certainly have the finances to sign a quality striker, especially after selling Harry Kane for a fee of around €100 million. Tottenham have started the season really well, and they are currently on top of the league table. They will want to have a memorable season and compete for the title this year.
