Tim Sherwood tore into ‘disgusting’ Pedro Porro after a disastrous performance and a costly loss against Leicester City.

Tottenham Hotspur continued their strange season with a disastrous defeat against Leicester City. The result baffled Spurs supporters, considering how they beat Manchester City last weekend. The Foxes tore Tottenham apart and shipped four goals past them while another was disallowed for offside. And Pedro Porro, in particular, endured a disastrous outing.

Overall, it was a bad result for Tottenham and shed light on returning manager Antonio Conte. There were wasteful suggestions that Spurs performed better with the Italian in the dugout, but that was not the case, as the team did not take their tasks seriously.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood pinpointed the performance of January signing Pedro Porro, who was torn to shreds by Harvey Barnes and James Maddison on his wing. The former Sporting CP star arrived amid a dragged-out transfer saga. And the fans had big expectations from the Spaniard.

The January signing was making his full debut and will not carry happy memories of this encounter. Apart from Porro, there were several others, such as Eric Dier, who, yet again, put up an inconsistent performance at the back.

Spurs legend Sherwood did not hold back in his assessment of Porro, slamming an ‘absolutely disgusting’ display from the Tottenham January signing. His comments appeared on Soccer Saturday via Sky Sports as he reflected on recent quotes from club Chairman Daniel Levy.

Sherwood said, “I don’t want to keep picking on the kid, but he needs to be relieved of his duties at the moment. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt because it’s his debut, but Pedro Porro is so bad it’s unbelievable. His positioning is absolutely disgusting. Barnes and Maddison are destroying him down the left-hand side.”

On recent comments from the Tottenham chairman, he said, “Daniel Levy said this week that they’d [Spurs] spent a lot of money. Yes, they have, but their recruitment has been very, very poor. This is the latest addition.”

“Don’t make any conclusions at the moment but what I’m looking at is not a player who wants to defend. Antonio Conte has complained about the defending and this player at the moment is struggling to defend.”

The result was terrible from Tottenham’s perspective and their quest to finish in the top four. As Newcastle United later drew with Bournemouth, Spurs missed a significant opportunity to close the gap on the Magpies. They could have also opened up a decent lead over Brighton, who are breathing down their neck in the sixth spot.

While Tottenham trail Newcastle United by four points after playing 23 games, the Magpies have a game in hand over Conte’s side. Meanwhile, Brighton are only four points behind Spurs with two games in hand. If the Seagulls win those matches, they will overtake the north Londoners in the standings.

Conte must instil belief and make his team perform consistently to achieve their targets. The challenges in the Premier League are far greater than last season, which could result in Tottenham finishing outside of the Champions League places, which could have disastrous ramifications.
