Takefusa Kubo has ruled out rejoining Real Madrid in the near future, insisting he is happy at La Liga club Real Sociedad at the moment.
In an interview with Spanish publication MARCA, Takefusa Kubo spoke about his recent links with Real Madrid. And the Japanese international distanced himself from such speculation while insisting he is happy at La Liga club Real Sociedad.
Kubo said, “Right now I am a Real Sociedad player and I don’t think about anything else. The coach takes very good care of me, the teammates too. If it weren’t for Real, I had half-lost the ticket for the World Cup. Now I am lucky to be summoned among the 26 and I thank the Real Madrid family. I do not think in another thing.”
Takefusa Kubo has endured frustrations since returning to Europe by joining Real Madrid. The 21-year-old had previously spent some time at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before returning to Japan due to FIFA-imposed rules. And he might have had some lofty ambitions when Real Madrid snapped him up three years ago.
But the Japanese international could never establish a foothold at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Merengues could not hand him a role in the first-team squad due to the non-EU rule in La Liga. So Kubo embarked on various loan spells, experiencing varying degrees of success.
The youngster finally left Real Madrid for good this past summer, moving across La Liga to join Real Sociedad. And he has enjoyed a decent 2022/23 season thus far, chipping in with two goals and four assists in 17 appearances. Kubo’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Los Blancos closely monitoring him.
Recent reports have claimed Real Madrid will scout Kubo at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And they might have had representatives present in Qatar when the 21-year-old featured for Japan against Germany. But the Spanish champions’ hopes of re-signing the player might have reduced following his comments.
The Japanese international is seemingly happy at Real Sociedad and focused on excelling for La Real. So it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will remain interested in Kubo or look at alternatives to bolster the attack in the coming years.
