Steve McManaman believes Newcastle United should target marquee signings such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Newcastle United have come into the spotlight ever since their high profile takeover was completed a few weeks ago. With wealthy owners backing the club into a future re-build, many big-name players are linked in numbers with each passing day.

Many of them are proven stars across the top five leagues in Europe, including several established players from the Premier League. The Magpies are backed to spend heavily in the next few windows. However, their immediate requirement might be a manager to guide them forward after parting ways with Steve Bruce this week.

They still need a clear plan to build their squad using the next few windows. Many experts believe they might not spend as heavily as anticipated in January but instead focus their attention on staying afloat in the Premier League and subsequently making a splash in the summer.

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Steve McManaman has tipped the Magpies to make some statement signings whenever they enter the transfer window. The pundit urges them to get some big-name stars and make a statement of intent.

Writing on Horseracing.net, McManaman urged Newcastle to get the best manager and players, including Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, if possible. He also warned Newcastle to be aware of many agents pushing some out-of-favour players, such as those at Real Madrid towards St. James Park. The Daily Mail posted some of his interesting comments about the Magpies.

McManaman said, “Newcastle just have to be very careful. Everybody in the world knows that. Every agent will be trying to push their players into Newcastle. Gareth Bale would be very interesting, of course, he would, as he’s got a year left on his contract, and he’s a super player.

“The only thing is whether he wants to come back to this country as he loves life in Madrid. Eden Hazard is now on the wrong side of 30. And you have to be very careful with Isco and Luka Jovic. I don’t think Isco is a Premier League player; he just lacks that little bit of pace. Marquee signings to me are the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. You’ve got to be careful that you don’t pay older players lots of money, and then they don’t turn up.’
