Manchester United earned a hard-fought victory against Southampton at the St Mary’s stadium, owing to a goal scored by Romelu Lukaku.
Manchester United fought hard against a stubborn Southampton side, and recorded a win as Romelu Lukaku went on to score his sixth Premier League goal of the season. Lukaku broke the deadlock within 20 minutes, converting the rebound to a goal, after Fraser Forster parried a header which was a result of Ashley Young’s cross.
Tonight’s result will maintain United’s unbeaten start to their league campaign, even though they are second in the table, behind Manchester City on goal difference. Their latest victory was quite well-deserved, especially since Southampton piled on the pressure in the second half.
Jose Mourinho will be a happy man after the victory since the team did astoundingly well and did not break under pressure. The tone on Twitter was a bit different though since many fans did not agree with the manager’s decision of switching to a more defensive play after half-time.
Mou defending one goal? @ManUtd is an attacking football club. #sotmun

Not the best performance, but Manchester United did what was needed to be done and won the three points. Huge win. Brilliant.

Young, "That wasn't a Manchester United performance, but we dug deep, defended as a unit and took a tough three points."

Pathetic second half by Manchester United. Lifeless, defensive and without ambition. Lukaku got it done. Bailly/Jones/De Gea kept it secure.

That was ugly but the tradition continues, Manchester United doesn't drop points on my birthday weekend

Regardless, there were some who were happy with the fact that United managed to pick up three points.

6 – No player scored more goals in their first six @premierleague games for @ManUtd than Romelu Lukaku (6, level with Louis Saha). Impact.

Dont think Lukaku could've had a better start to life at Manchester United. Fitted in so well, hit the ground running right from the start.

Morata and Lukaku both scoring week in, week out. Think it's time to have a ceasefire between United and Chelsea fans for the time being. pic.twitter.com/GfOruFJSym

Seriously, it is not even fun to watch Lukaku anymore. He ragdolls people, he makes them look like children, he feeds on their weak souls.

Romelu Lukaku just cannot stop scoring. Unbelievable. What a player.

Haven't heard any idiots talking about Lukaku's transfer fee since game 1. He's properly and utterly shut his haters up.

On a side note, a lot was said about Jose Mourinho being sent to the stands. Take a look.
Jose Mourinho sacrifices himself to the stands to waste time, THAT'S MY MANAGER.
