Sofyan Amrabat could end up staying at Manchester United despite his poor season-long loan spell at Old Trafford.
Sofyan Amrabat could continue at the Manchester-based club beyond the summer, the Moroccan international might not have had the best of times at United this season but he has insisted that there is a chance of him staying.
While talking to Dutch outlet Ziggo Sport, the 27-year-old midfielder said via The Standard: “Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk,”
“Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United, it needs to be much better, and also for me personally.”
While the Fiorentina midfielder has no clarity over his future at this stage, he has made it clear that he will soon hold talks with the English club. He has insisted that continuing at the club is still an option. The defensive midfielder has acknowledged that his performance this season hasn’t been up to par and appears determined to make a strong comeback.
Amrabat’s move to Manchester United
Amrabat’s sensational form for both club and country resulted in a lot of interest last summer. He was on the wishlist of top clubs but United managed to strike a deal for his services.
They ended up paying €10 million to secure his services on a season-long loan last summer. Since making the move to the Manchester-based club, the Moroccan international has never really got going.
He has racked up just over 1,500 minutes of first-team action in 30 appearances across competitions. Amrabat has only started 10 Premier League games all season long. He was even used as a make-shift left-back when they were out of options because of injuries.
The 27-year-old hasn’t really got the kind of role he was looking for at United. But, things did improve in the final weeks as he started in their last three league games and even in their sensational FA Cup final win against Manchester City.
Amarabat could continue at United
His growing influence in the team suggests that there is a genuine chance of him staying at the club. His overall performances haven’t been good enough and reports suggest that United are unlikely to trigger the €25 million buy option in his clause.
However, the player insists that soon he will hold talks with the club about his future and he could end up staying at Old Trafford despite the poor start to life at United. Erik ten Hag’s future at the club is also uncertain and it might have a huge say on where Amrabat will play his football next season. If the Dutch manager is shown the exit door, the Moroccan international might not have a future at the club.
