Simon Jordan has tipped Tottenham to sign ‘rare beast’ Ivan Toney in the summer after being convinced the striker will move in January.

Simon Jordan of Talk Sport described Ivan Toney as a ‘rare beast’ and believes he would perfectly suit Tottenham if he decides to leave Brentford. The 27-year-old forward continues to serve an eight-month ban due to breaching the FA’s betting rules.

Toney has since returned to Brentford training and will make his return around January. However, he has reportedly changed agents, which, for any player, usually indicates a change of scenery. In the 27-year-old’s case, there’s tremendous interest, especially from top London sides Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Arsenal-linked star boasts something neither the Gunners nor the Blues have in them. Toney’s 20-goal season last time out puts him above the current options at either club and while Tottenham had the privilege of boasting Harry Kane in their ranks, the England captain no longer plays in north London.

Recent reports have heavily linked Arsenal with a January move for Toney. Mikel Arteta may need to bring a player of the Brentford star’s profile, something the Gunners lack within their current squad. However, the Bees are set to demand somewhere between £50-£60 million, while other reports insist they could ask for at least £80 million.

Talk Sport’s Simon Jordan now feels Tottenham could be better suited for Toney and feels the striker could have a telling effect on their side. He described the 27-year-old as a ‘rare beast’ for his goalscoring prowess and remained convinced the Brentford star is about to change clubs in the next window.

Jordan said, “If you have changed your agent to be able to achieve an outcome. In my opinion, based upon my experience, the bottom line is he’s changed agents to anticipate a move,”

“There is an expectation of a move. He’s going to move.”

“He is going, and the reason is that it’s very rare you see a top-class centre-forward become available in the January transfer window. So there’s a rarity to that little beast.”

“I quite like him for Tottenham. He would be a signing for Tottenham but it begs a question what would happen for Richarlison in that respect.

Arsenal are also keen on Ollie Watkins, but neither he nor Toney fits into the age criteria of players Arteta likes to sign. Not to say the Gunners haven’t signed older players; they would still prefer a long-term investment than a short-term fix.

Things could change depending on where they are in January. However, as Jordan explains, Tottenham could become an interesting option for Toney. The 27-year-old could thrive in the system created by Ange Postecoglou and become their direct replacement for Kane.

With his last comment, Jordan also fears for the future of Richarlison, who could have a subdued role to play if someone like Toney arrives. Overall, a move to Spurs would suit the Brentford star, but any deal will depend on Tottenham’s ability to pay what’s required to sign him.
