Santiago Gimenez keen on Real Madrid move

RCD Mallorca vs Real Madrid: Preview and Prediction ahead of their La Liga league match this Sunday night. .

Santiago Gimenez is keen to join Real Madrid if an opportunity presents itself but already has considerable interest from top Premier League sides.

Santiago Gimenez has made a name for himself in the Eredivisie after his 15 goals helped Feyenoord clinch only their second league title in a century. The Mexican has since taken his game to another level, after hitting 10 goals in his first 7 league games this season.

If the Mexican continues on this form, then he might break the 30-goal barrier in the Eredivisie, which last came through Wilfried Bony in the 2012/13 season. However, his form and style of play have already attracted te interest of top Premier League sides like Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Salvadoran journalist Fernando Palomo recently dismissed summer links to Chelsea and pointed towards the striker’s ambition to play for a side like Real Madrid. The Spanish side maintain an interest in the Mexican forward and could consider making a move.

Real Madrid are missing a top name up front, and have chased Kylian Mbappe to fulfil that role. With the move for the Frenchman not expected to happen before the summer,  Carlo Ancelotti’s men might pounce on the opportunity to sign someone like Gimenez in January to bring competition for Joselu.

They have not managed to replace Karim Benzema in the side and may see the Mexican as a good fit. Some reports claimed Real Madrid may have to pay €50 million for the striker, which appears well within their range. Now, Gimenez has revealed he would like the opportunity to play for the Spanish giants.

Earlier this week the Chelsea-linked attacker told Spanish journalist Elisa Lasso via 90 Min, “I’d be delighted to play for Real Madrid. Of course. It’s a super big club.”

Now these kinds of chances appear rarely in a player’s career, and no professional would reject the opportunity.

That may remain the case with Gimenez as well, who could seize the chance to play for his dream club. If not, then he could consider the overtures of English clubs, as there could be more in the mix other than Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Gunners have considered the Mexican in recent weeks as they continue to ramp up their efforts to sign a new striker in January. However, Mikel Arteta might only take the Mexican if he fails in pursuit of other targets.

Chelsea, on the other hand, could have a more pressing need to sign a new forward in the next window. Gimenez, with his goalscoring numbers, certainly represents a solid alternative to some of their primary targets like Dusan Vlahovic or Victor Osimhen.

As for the striker, he would spring at the chance of signing for Real Madrid. This means all other clubs may have to take a back seat if the Spanish side shows even the remotest of interest in the forward.
