Sam Allardyce picks between Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title

The 2024/25 Premier League season kicks off on August 16, and several clubs will be vying for the league title, with Sam Allardyce making his prediction.

Former England head coach Sam Allardyce has now declared that Arsenal and Manchester City will be the front-runners for the Premier League title. He believes that Arsenal could end their wait for the league title and finally break the drought this time around.

Arsenal last won the Premier League title in 2004, and they are expected to end their 20-year wait in the upcoming season. Furthermore, Allardyce feels that Manchester City are unlikely to win four league titles on the trot and it has never been done before.

The former Premier League manager also added that Manchester City’s decision to get rid of Julian Alvarez and not replace him adequately could end up costing them. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can improve their squad adequately and beat Manchester City to the league this time around.

“I just think that it’s four on the trot, never been done before,” said Allardyce on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast before continuing, “I think that they have got so much more pressure on them every time it goes on to make it five now, and the effort it needs to put into that.”

“Of course, if they have sold Alvarez and they don’t replace him, I just think that’s a bit of a blow for Man City. I also think Arsenal have been growing in the last two, three seasons and they came very close last year, but the year before they should have won it and they blew.”

“They blew the title. I think this time the squad has got better, more additions to the squad and so will bring Man City close. And that’s why I have just picked Arsenal over Man City.”

There is no doubt that they have a quality squad and a quality manager. The North London outfit finished as the runners-up in the last two seasons, and Mikel Arteta will demand a strong performance from his players in the upcoming season as well.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have terrific squads, and it is no surprise that Allardyce has chosen them as the front-runners. Meanwhile, the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool might look to have their say in the matter as well.

Manchester United need to rebuild their side with important signings across across the park and Liverpool are beginning a new era under manager Arne Slot. It will be interesting to see if they can match up to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
