Roy Keane backs Manchester United to clinch top-four finish, heaps praise on Jadon Sancho

Roy Keane has backed Manchester United to clinch a top-four finish in the Premier League while praising Jadon Sancho for his recent form.

In a conversation on Sky Sports, as quoted by Daily Mail, Roy Keane has voiced his opinion on the top-four race, backing Manchester United to finish fourth in the Premier League. The Manchester United legend also lauded Jadon Sancho for his recent form, including a brilliant performance against Leeds United on Sunday.

Manchester United’s ongoing campaign best resembles a roller-coaster ride. The Red Devils entered the season with optimism after finishing second behind Manchester City in the 2020/21 campaign and signing two world-class players in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window.

The window also ended with a popular homecoming for Cristiano Ronaldo, which further bolstered fans’ hopes and optimism. But the positive feeling waned quickly as results on the pitch did not match the expectations. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was soon sacked by Manchester United less than halfway through the season.

Ralf Rangnick replaced Solskjaer, becoming Manchester United’s interim manager. And the performances have gradually improved, with the Red Devils creating more chances. While the results have not always been positive, West Ham United, Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur lag behind Manchester United in the top-four race.

West Ham’s hopes suffered a dent this past weekend, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United. And following Manchester United’s 4-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday, club legend Roy Keane has backed Manchester United to clinch a top-four finish.

“I think United will be fine for fourth, I really do. There’s been lots of noises about players wanting to leave, contract situations with Pogba and Jesse Lingard, and people like that. Focus on the next few months, big few months for Man United, try and get fourth.”

“They’ve a big European game coming up, focus on that, and then regroup again in the summer regarding obviously a manager, they’ll be looking at recruitment, but keep their heads and keep focused and they should be OK.”

Keane also heaped praise on Jadon Sancho, who has been in excellent form lately while being crucial to Manchester United’s win this past weekend. Keane said, “He’s getting a bit of swagger back, and it’s nice to see because he was getting heavily criticised.”

Despite Keane’s backing, Manchester United cannot afford to slip up, considering Arsenal, Wolves and Tottenham have games in hand. And following Spurs’ big win over Manchester City this past weekend, the top-four race got even spicier.
