Romelu Lukaku hits out at Chelsea as he talked about things that went on during the summer before he ended up joining AS Roma on loan.

Since the very start of the transfer window, it was pretty clear that Romelu Lukaku wouldn’t be a part of the Chelsea setup for the 2023-24 season. The 30-year-old was not in the plans of the Blues as well as their new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Belgian international was linked with a move back to Inter Milan and he was also linked with Juventus. But, Lukaku ended up joining Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in the end.

While he did manage to secure a move in time, the 30-year-old went through a lot during the summer and he recently talked about that during his press conference ahead of Belgian’s fixture in the international break.

Lukaku didn’t reveal any details about his fallout with Chelsea. But, he did promise that he would speak when the time is right. The Belgian international hinted towards certain details that would shock the world of football.

Lukaku said during the press conference via Sporza: “Was I ever afraid that things wouldn’t work out this summer? No, enough people know what qualities I have. There are just a lot of outsiders who liked to speak on my behalf. A lot of bullshit has been published,”

“Most of the people in the room know me. You know that I don’t like to beat around the bush. I will speak in time, but if I really said how it all went last summer, everyone would be shocked.”

“What was the biggest nonsense I read? That I was supposedly told I was going to a certain club, but it didn’t make any sense.”

“There were moments when I could explode. Five years ago I might have done that too, but now I didn’t waste any energy on it.”

Lukaku was initially linked with a move back to Inter Milan where he had spent the last season on loan. But, according to reports, he was in negotiations with Juventus as well. And, when Inter came to know about it, they decided to pull out of the race.

Even the move to Juventus didn’t go through. While there was interest from Saudi Arabia as well, the 30-year-old wanted to continue in Europe. In the end, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma came calling and managed to strike a deal for his services.

The Belgian international is currently on a season-long loan at the Italian club and he has got off to a sensational start. He has featured in eight matches and has been on the pitch for 606 minutes. Lukakua has found the back of the net a total of seven times and he averages a goal every 87th minute.

The 30-year-old will return to his parent club next summer. But, they have no intentions of keeping him at the club and have already set a price tag for his services. Meanwhile, Roma and Newcastle United are two clubs interested in signing him on a permanent basis.
