Romelu Lukaku was delighted after making his return to Stamford Bridge and starring in the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Romelu Lukaku has voiced his ecstasy after helping Chelsea secure a win on Saturday. The forward has stated that he is delighted to have finally scored at Stamford Bridge, thus fulfilling a lifelong dream,
The interview came shortly after Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa, where Lukaku scored twice to help his side register all three points. The Belgian had played for the West London giants for three years between 2011 to 2014, but Saturday’s goals were bizarrely his first in a Chelsea kit at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking after the game, Lukaku admitted it was his lifelong dream to score at Stamford Bridge in front of his home supporters.
“[I] waited [for his first goal at Stamford Bridge] you know, it’s my dream since I was 11. I worked hard for this moment but you know I’m very happy with the win,” he told Sky Sports, as quoted by football.london.
The 28-year-old was indeed the Man of the Match for the Chelsea side, scoring an early opener before netting another in the final few minutes of the game, to add some gloss to the scoreline. The victory helps the Blues move to second place in the Premier League table, trailing Manchester United only due to an inferior scoring record.
“It was a very important win for us, it was about focus and motivation and we showed the will to win from the first minute; I’m happy to win,” Lukaku told the media after the game. He later addressed that scoring in front of the home supporters was a dream come true for him, stating: “Yeah it was good, childhood dream for me, very happy to be in this situation I’m in but the hard work continues.”
“Playing in Italy, I was playing in a league where I would get one chance a game or two chances a game and I had to take them. I think with experience, hard work and teammates understanding me, I’m very happy with the situation I’m in,” he added, thanking his teammates and Thomas Tuchel for giving him the opportunity.
Although we are still in the early phase of the campaign, the former Inter Milan superstar has already hit the ground running in the Premier League, scoring three goals in the first three matches. He is set to face a stern test in midweek, though, as Chelsea take on Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Champions League.
