Robin Van Persie heaps praise on Liverpool manager Arne Slot

Robin van Persie believes compatriot Arne Slot will do ‘very well’ at Liverpool and is in line to play Jurgen Klopp-style football.

Liverpool fans were only emotionally reeling from the departure of their legendary manager, Jurgen Klopp when the club wasted no time in officially announcing the arrival of Arne Slot. After months of searching since the German’s announcement to leave Anfield, the Merseysiders narrowed down on the former Feyenoord boss as their next manager.

Liverpool might have wanted Xabi Alonso, and after a tedious pursuit, the Spaniard chose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen and prolong his project there. Then there were links to Ruben Amorim, but those phased out very quickly before Slot came into the equation.

Slot had other suitors, as Barcelona were linked, while Chelsea might have also briefly considered him as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor. However, Liverpool wanted him more, and Slot only sights on the Merseyside job, with both parties now making it official.

While there have been a few casting doubts about whether Slot will perform well at Liverpool, one former Manchester United icon believes he will succeed in the Anfield dugout. Robin van Persie heaped praise on his compatriot with his comments on Slot on Voetbalprieur, as he feels the Dutchman has a similar style of play as Klopp.

Van Persie said, “I think very well. “How he wants to play is in line with Klopp’s style of play and what they are used to there. I expect them to do very well.”

“Liverpool is one of the nicer clubs in England. I have been able to play for two other very nice clubs. “Slot has already been able to practice well at Feyenoord in that rhythm. But there (in England), it goes very hard and fast for eleven to 11.5 months a year. It is a very nice new opportunity for him. I believe it will go very well.”

Slot has a terrific track record at Eredivisie side Feyenoord, but this season, he could not replicate the previous one in which they won the title. However, his style of play may suit Liverpool, and fans may feel it’s closer to what Klopp had here.

Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy will not focus their efforts on bringing in the right players in the market to help them mount a title challenge next season. Decisions also need to be made on some experienced stars, with suggestions about the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk yet to decide their immediate future at the club.
