Manchester United picked up an impressive win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils scored a 97th-minute winner to seal all three points away from home and Kobbie Mainoo scored the stunning injury-time winner.

Former Manchester United defender and club legend Rio Ferdinand has now heaped praise on the 18-year-old Academy graduate. Ferdinand believes that Mainoo is similar to the AC Milan legend and Dutch international midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

Mainoo is highly rated at Old Trafford and he has now established himself as an important first-team player. The midfielder recently scored in the FA Cup game against Newport County as well. He will be hoping to establish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet in the coming weeks.

There is no doubt that the 18-year-old is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him but drawing similarities with Seedorf is certainly high praise.

The former Manchester United defender revealed that Mainoo gives off vibes of the former Dutch international especially with the way he manoeuvres in tight situations and manipulates the ball using his body.

“I’m not saying he’s of the same ability, or that he’s that player yet, but he gives me vibes of Clarence Seedorf,” he said on TNT Sports (h/t Mirror). “The way he manoeuvres in tight situations and the way he manipulates this ball and uses his body at times.

“He shifts it, pops it through [Max] Kilman’s legs – beautiful. He’s elusive at times as well and the control and the awareness to pick his spot. Some players see the headlines there and the back pages and think ‘I’m going to go for it’. But he just caresses it.”

The 18-year-old has shown great control and awareness in tight spaces in the middle of the park and he is clearly and elite talent with immense potential. Manchester United should look to focus on his development closely and help him fulfil his world class potential.

The Red Devils needed a deep lying midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and help out defensively. Players like Sofyan Amrabat and Casemiro have been quite underwhelming and the emergence of Mainoo will come as a major blessing for the Premier League giants.
