Real Madrid fell to a disappointing 2-1 loss at the Mestalla Stadium against 14th placed Valencia to suffer another blow to their title challenge. The result leaves Zidane’s men just one point ahead of second-placed Barcelona, although Los Blancos do have a game in hand.

Zidane’s team never looked like they really got going and Valencia capitalised on their poor performance with two goals in the opening ten minutes. Madrid picked up a consolation goal through Ronaldo a minute before half time but the visitors never looked like they were capable of winning the game.

Simone Zaza has come in for a lot of stick this season after his strange penalty run-up in the Euro 2016 tournament and his subsequent performances for West Ham, so Twitter erupted when the Italian smashed Valencia ahead with a stunning volley on the turn, with some even praising the Italian.

Fabian Orellana then put the hosts ahead just four minutes later and Twitter was abuzz once more. Many also faulted Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas after Orellana’s shot went between his legs.

Raphael Varane was also heavily criticised after a poor performance for Real Madrid, and his terrible high-footed challenge came in for some stick as well.
