RB Leipzig director Christopher Vivell has confirmed that the club are interested in re-signing Timo Werner from Chelsea this summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, RB Leipzig director Christopher Vivell has confirmed that the Bundesliga giants are considering bringing Timo Werner back to the club as they find him ‘very exciting’.
Werner earned his spurs at RB Leipzig after spending four seasons at the Saxony-based outfit between 2016 and 2020. He made 156 appearances for the German outfit during that period, scoring 90 goals and setting up 56 more, before earning his big move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
However, Werner’s switch to England has not gone according to plans at all as the 26-year-old has struggled to replicate his form from RB Leipzig and failed to make the desired impact. So far in two seasons at Stamford Bridge, the German international has made 89 appearances, with just 23 goals and 21 assists to show for his efforts. Only ten of those 23 goals have come in the Premier League.
As a result, Werner’s future at Chelsea has come under the scanner, with rumours of a return to RB Leipzig gathering momentum in recent weeks. The German giants have emerged as frontrunners to sign the 26-year-old striker, who himself is keen on a return to the Red Bull Arena and is willing to take a pay cut to make the move happen.
News #Werner: RB Director Vivell told @philipphinze24: „Of course we find him exciting, he's incredibly fast & a ?? international. We have been in exchange with him since his transfer. But we are not close to a deal & will only announce sth. when it makes sense." #CFC @SkySportDE

Now, RB Leipzig director Vivell has confirmed that the club are keen on a reunion with their former centre-forward, saying: “Of course we find him exciting, he’s incredibly fast and a Germany international. We have been in exchange with him since his transfer. But we are not close to a deal and will only announce something when it makes sense.”
Werner has also attracted interest from Italian giants Juventus, while Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Newcastle United have also appeared keen to sign him up. However, as things stand, all things point towards a potential return to Leipzig for the 26-year-old German international.
However, Chelsea might look to sanction his departure only after they bring in another forward to reinforce the frontline. Having already allowed Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan, the Blues could stand to further weaken their attacking department by letting Werner also leave without adding at least another centre-forward to their ranks.
