Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has been linked with a move away from the West London club this summer.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Raheem Sterling was dropped from teh matchday squad against Manchester City, and he is now seeking clarity over his future. Sterling’s representatives were expecting the Chelsea attacker to be included in the squad for the Manchester City clash, but Enzo Maresca decided to leave him out.
Sterling has not been at his best since arriving from Manchester City, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to cash in on him before the summer transfer window closesSterling’s representatives released a statement via Daily Mail after he was left out of the match-day squad against Manchester City.
They revealed that the player has been committed to performing at the highest level for Chelsea and that he has had an impressive pre-season under the new manager as well. The statement also revealed that they are looking forward to talks with Chelsea in relation to the player’s future.
The statement read: “He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity. As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation.”
It remains to be seen whether the Blues are willing to keep Sterling, who arrived at the club during Thomas Tuchel’s reign, beyond this summer. The Englishman joined Chelsea in 2022 for a fee of around £47.5 million. However, he has not been able to live up to the expectations.
The England international was one of the best wingers in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City. But the 29-year-old has clearly regressed. It will be Interesting to see if he can get back to his best once again.
Will Chelsea decide to sell Raheem Sterling?
Chelsea need quality players if they want to challenge for major trophies. If they can get the best out of Sterling once again, he could make a big difference for them. The winger scored ten goals across all competitions last season and picked up eight assists along the way. However, a player of his caliber is expected to do a lot better.
Chelsea have signed Pedro Neto from Wolves this summer, and it is fair to assume that the Portuguese international will be a regular starter for them. His arrival will certainly push Sterling down the pecking order. The England international needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and he must seek same time assurances from Chelsea.
If the Blues failed to provide him with the assurances, he should look to move on for his own benefit. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at Chelsea this season. There is unlikely to be shortage of suitors for a player of his quality, and he could be a useful acquisition for most teams in the league.
