Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has backed Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling to succeed at Real Madrid if he moves to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Ray Parlour has had his say on the transfer rumours surrounding Raheem Sterling. The Arsenal legend will not be surprised if the English international leaves Manchester City to join a foreign club. In addition, he has backed Sterling to succeed at Real Madrid.

Raheem Sterling has enjoyed an excellent career since joining Manchester City from Liverpool in July 2015. The transfer was controversial at the time, but the 27-year-old has justified his decision by playing an instrumental role in Manchester City’s success in the last seven years.

While Sterling has been in and out of the side in the last couple of seasons, he enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, amassing 17 goals and nine assists in 47 outings across all competitions. But with one year left on his contract, the English international faces an uncertain future at Manchester City, with Real Madrid closely monitoring his situation.

Recent reports have claimed that the Spanish giants are plotting a summer move for Sterling. And Sterling could be a solid addition to the Real Madrid squad as the Spanish giants look to replace Gareth Bale following his departure as a free agent. And now, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has backed Sterling to succeed at Real Madrid if he moves to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I can see some players thinking about trying a different league, a different culture – I wouldn’t put it past Raheem thinking about that. He’s in the prime of his life and career and he doesn’t play on a regular basis because Man City have got so many good players. So, yeah, what a move. Real Madrid have surprised everyone this year. I expected them to win La Liga, but not the Champions League.”

“To beat Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea, and you’d argue two of those teams are the best in the world at the moment, it’s an amazing season. Antonio Rudiger is going there as well, Real Madrid are really stepping it up now and Raheem Sterling would be a great signing for them. We forget he’s still only 27.”

“He’s had a long career already, but I’m sure Pep Guardiola knows how important he is. He’s a big-game player and we saw that at the Euros for England. Everybody thought Sterling was not in great form, but he stepped up and was probably one of our best players in the tournament. So if he does move on, I’m sure he’d do a great job for Real Madrid if he went there.”
