PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted the club’s interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Nasser Al-Khelaifi revealed Paris Saint-Germain have had a chat with the entourage of Marcus Rashford over the possibility of a transfer. And the French champions will be inclined towards a Bosman move in the summer.
Rashford has been in a different kind of form this season, and the arrival of Erik ten Hag seems to have done the trick. The English international seems to be in a happy space and enjoying his game this term.
But the 25-year-old is in the last year of his Manchester United contract, although he has a one-year extension option embedded in his deal. However, it is certain the club will sit with his representatives to chalk out a long-term plan for the player.
Rashford’s emergence has also helped him at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as he is currently England’s top scorer in the tournament. He is also a leading contender for the golden boot.
The player reiterated his desire to extend his association with his boyhood club in the past. But it seems PSG head honcho Nasser Al-Khelaifi has some other plans. On being asked about Rashford and the interest from the club he answered, “He’s another player that is really amazing. And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.”
“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not? Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after in January, hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.”
PSG have already showed they are ready to splash the big bucks on their top targets, as they did with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the past. And Rashford might be the next player on the radar. But their failure to compete in the European competitions has had a major dent in their club history, and it could foil their plans for the time being.
