Pedri has made a cheeky suggestion that Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio should join Barcelona, saying all great players should represent the Blaugrana.

In an interview with COPE, Pedri suggested Marco Asensio should join Barcelona if he leaves Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The Spanish attacker will be out of contract at the Santiago Bernabeu on June 30, 2023.

Marco Asensio was once supposed to be the next big thing in Spanish football after rising through the ranks at RCD Mallorca. And when the 26-year-old joined Real Madrid, he immediately stepped up and took his game to another level. But a long-term knee injury in 2019 has impacted his stature at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While the Spaniard has produced some remarkable performances for Real Madrid, he is a backup option for Carlo Ancelotti. Asensio has enjoyed a solid campaign thus far, amassing three goals and three assists in 426 minutes of game time. But the player is in the final few months of his deal with Real Madrid, with his situation alerting several clubs.

Some reports have even linked Barcelona with the Real Madrid attacker. And Pedri added fuel to the fire during an interview with COPE, suggesting Asensio should join the Blaugrana as “all the good players have to be in Barcelona”.

In an interview with the Spanish outlet, the Barcelona midfielder said, “You have to see what happens with the Asensio contract but I think all the good players have to be in Barcelona.” Pedri then remained coy on the subject of convincing the Real Madrid attacker, saying, “I’m not much for doing those things, convincing anyone.”

Real Madrid initially thought about letting Asensio leave as a free agent, with Carlo Ancelotti hinting the same. But recent reports have claimed that the reigning La Liga champions want to tie the 26-year-old to a new three-year contract. And the Spanish attacker also wants to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

So a controversial move to Barcelona might not see the light of day unless the situation changes dramatically. For now, Asensio is waiting for Real Madrid to offer him a new contract to continue his stint in the capital.
