Arsenal legend Paul Merson makes a bold prediction regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s performances in the 2023-24 season.

Tottenham Hotspur are off to a great start in the 2023-24 season. They have won three out of their four matches in the Premier League and are currently 2nd on the points table.

While Spurs are doing a great job under the leadership of new boss Ange Postecoglou, former England international Paul Merson has made a bold prediction about their future.

The 55-year-old believes the London club will struggle and might not even finish in the top half of the points table. He believes they will fail to cope with the absence of Harry Kane and might do worse than they did last season.

Paul Merson while speaking on Football Daily about where Tottenham will finish this season: โ€œI think they [Tottenham] will struggle to get in the top-half this season.โ€

Spurs were far from their best in the 2022-23 season. Despite having tactician Antonio Conte on their bench, they failed to produce the kind of results the board and the fans expected.

Even Conte wasn’t happy at the club, he ended up making some harsh comments about the club, its people and the players. Eventually, Tottenham decided to sack him. They appointed Postecoglou as their new manager ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Australian boss took charge of a decent squad and made a few additions to further bolster it. While they did acquire a few top-class players, they ended up offloading Harry Kane. The England international’s contract was running out and Bayern Munich were offered a huge sum for his services.

Tottenham didn’t want to risk losing out on him for free and ended up selling him to the German giants. While the transfer did bring in a lot of money, they lost their record goal scorer.

His departure has left a huge void in their attack. The 30-year-old guaranteed them close to 30 goals a season and that is why Paul Merson believes his absence will be felt and they won’t be able to find a reliable source of goal.

Merson believes Kane’s 30 goals will be the difference. The Arsenal legend stated that with the help of the England international they somehow managed to finish eight, with him no longer at the club they might not even make it to the top half.
