Newcastle United backed to sign Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette by Kevin Phillips

Kevin Phillips has urged Newcastle United to strengthen their attacking option with a January swoop for Alexandre Lacazette.

Since Newcastle United’s takeover was concluded earlier this month, media outlets have flooded platforms with various transfer links to players. Stars from Europe’s every corner have seen their names linked to the Magpies, but the club might go with a specific strategy in terms of recruitments.

There is a belief; the Magpies will focus their attention on recruiting a manager and director of football before spending big money on signing players. The initial ideas seem to point towards signing players who could improve the club’s fortunes in the short term and then a gradual build-up.

The club are already linked with ambitious attacking names such as Adama Traore and the likes, as they do not have a cash shortage. They are also linked with bigger names such as Adrien Rabiot from Juventus in a reported €30 million deal.

Alexandre Lacazette’s name is also thrown in the mix in recent days. The striker started his first Premier League game and produced a brilliant performance as Arsenal won against Aston Villa. If Newcastle are genuinely interested, they have competition from Everton and West Ham for the Frenchman.

Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips urges Newcastle United to swoop for Lacazette, with the Frenchman’s contract expiring at the end of the season. The striker could be available at a discounted price. Phillips tells Football Insider, the Arsenal man could be an exciting signing for the Magpies.

Phillips said, “I have always been a big fan of Lacazette. I think he’s a great player. He would be an amazing signing for Newcastle. He needs to play week in, week out. I get the impression he feels he is not loved at Arsenal. Perhaps he feels he does not get the credit he deserves.

“In my opinion, he is a class player. If you played him week in, week out, you would reap the rewards. If I was a Newcastle fan and Lacazette came in, I’d be very excited. I know he is blessed with a lot of talent. He’d be a great signing in January.”
