Mikel Arteta has had his say on Brentford striker Ivan Toney, a target for Arsenal and Chelsea, having a £100 million price tag.

Ivan Toney is reportedly valued at £100 million, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now reflected on the inflated price tags of players these days via 90min.

Mikel Arteta has suggested that players are often overpriced in today’s market. But he refused to comment on the 27-year-old Brentford striker’s price tag. Arteta added that Arsenal are always looking to improve their squad and that they invest in players based on whether they fit the project perfectly and they are affordable.

“There has been an evolution. We have gone from 10s to 20s to 80s to 100s and there are players who have cost £200m. It’s not that we are getting used to it but it is something that is happening more and more often. On other players, other clubs, no comment on that,” Arteta said.

“The first thing is what can we do to improve our team and can we afford it? Does it make sense in our project to spend certain money on certain players? There is a lot of work to be done there.”

Ivan Toney is expected to move on during the January transfer window, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal try and sign him midway through the season. The Gunners could certainly use more quality in the final third, and Toney would be a superb acquisition. That 27-year-old is a proven performer in the Premier League, and he will add goals to the Arsenal attack.

Arsenal currently have Gabriel Jesus as the first-choice striker. But the Brazilian international is not prolific enough. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal decide to bring in Toney to share the goal-scoring burden alongside him.

The Brentford striker wants to join a big club capable of challenging for major trophies, and moving to Arsenal would be an exceptional opportunity for him. He would get to showcase his qualities in the UEFA Champions League and compete at the highest level.

Other English clubs have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Apparently, the striker is valued at £100 million, and it will be interesting to see if any Premier League club is willing to spend that kind of money on him.

Chelsea are in desperate need of a quality striker as well, and they are keeping tabs on the player. Toney could be an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson if he moves to Stamford Bridge. The English forward is at the peak of his powers right now and he might be able to make an immediate impact if he joins a club like Arsenal.

But he has done nothing to justify the £100 million price tag so far. Meanwhile, Brentford will not want to lose a key player like him and they will look to recoup as much as possible if he moves on in January.
