Mick Brown believes Erling Haaland is all set to stay at Manchester City despite interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Erling Haaland has smashed records for fun since arriving in England and it is only natural for a superstar like him to be linked with a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid. But, according to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, the Norwegian international is happy to stay at City.
While speaking on Football Insider, Brown said: “I’d be absolutely staggered if that happened,”
“I think City will be looking to tie him down to a long-term deal rather than letting him leave.
“Things couldn’t have gone better for him since his move to Manchester.
“I can’t see him being so dissatisfied with life at Man City that he looks to find a move away.
“That seems like a non-story to me. He’s happy at City and City are, of course, happy with him and his performances, so he won’t be looking to force a move.
“You can never discount the fact that somebody might, given the opportunity, want to go to Real Madrid. They want the Galacticos and they’re always looking at the best players in the world.
“But I know Man City won’t entertain a situation where they might lose him.“
After proving his credentials at Borussia Dortmund, Haaland made the move to City in the summer of 2022 and he hasn’t looked back since. In his 109 outings for Pep Guardiola’s team, he has scored 101 goals and he even has 14 assists to his name.
The 24-year-old striker already has two Premier League titles and a Champions League title to his name and given the kind of form he has been in, he will try his best to add to that tally this season. While his contract at City runs until the summer of 2027, reports have suggested that he could secure a move to Spain next summer.
Haaland won’t be moving to Spain in 2025
Haaland is one of the best footballers in the world and European giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are both keen on his signature. The Catalan giants have revived themselves under Flick and a star like the Norwegian international can surely take the places.
While Los Blancos already have a start-studded attack, they are always on the lookout for players who can help them take the next step and Haaland can surely be a sensational signing for them. With both European giants keen on his signature, it is quite normal to believe that the former Dortmund star would want to move to Spain.
But, according to the former United and West Ham chief scout, Haaland is not considering leaving City at this stage. He is happy to continue at the Manchester-based club despite interest from Madrid and Barcelona.
Even if the giants do knock on City’s door, the Premier League giants have no intentions of negotiating his departure. They are believed to be keen on extending his stay and securing his long-term as he is considered an integral part of their plans.
