Martin Zubimendi does not regret snubbing Liverpool

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has insisted that he does not regret snubbing Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

As quoted by Daily Mirror, Martin Zubimendi asserted during Real Sociedad’s pre-match press conference that he does not regret snubbing Liverpool in the summer transfer window. The Spanish midfielder added that he remains at peace and is happy with his decision to continue at the Reale Arena.

Zubimendi said, “My philosophy is to do what I feel at all times. So far, things have gone well for me. It is true that there was a lot of noise. I went through uncomfortable moments. The best thing for me was to stay here and I am happy and at peace. There is a lot of noise because of the press but in the end everything is easier than all that.”

“Of course I don’t regret it, I can’t think that after four or five games at the start of the season. I made my decision from within, I thought it was the best thing to do, the results don’t affect me. I see potential in this team, you just have to watch us train and I’m excited about having a good season.”

Martin Zubimendi has been one of the best midfielders in La Liga in the last few years. A native of San Sebastian, the Spaniard had to bide his time before becoming a regular for Real Sociedad. However, he has not looked back since establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at the Basque club.

The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for Real Sociedad while chipping in with nine goals and seven assists. Zubimendi played his part as Spain won the UEFA Euro 2024 title. As he returned to Real Sociedad, several high-profile Premier League clubs started showing interest in him. Liverpool came close to signing the Spanish midfielder before he snubbed the Reds to remain at the Reale Arena.

Recent reports have claimed that Zubimendi regrets rejecting Liverpool to remain at Real Sociedad. However, the Spaniard has refuted the notion, claiming he is content with his decision to continue at the Reale Arena beyond the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if a future move to Anfield sees the light of day.
