Mario Bittencourt reveals Tottenham are open to Richarlison sale amid Fluminense links

Mario Bittencourt has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will be open to selling Richarlison next year, although they might not sanction a deal immediately.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Mario Bittencourt revealed Tottenham’s stance over selling Richarlison. Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A heavyweights Fluminense are keen on signing the injury-riddled Brazilian international to bolster their campaign in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Bittencourt has revealed his conversation with Tottenham Hotspur. The Fluminense president has divulged that the Premier League heavyweights are willing to listen to an offer for the former Everton attacker, although they are not interested in “getting rid of the player”.

The Fluminense chief said, “Tottenham responded that they are open to the offer, but that they are not currently interested in getting rid of the player, but they are willing to listen. We are also talking to the player to see if he is interested in returning. What is certain is that we have expressed formal interest in Richarlison.”

Bittencourt continued, “We know how difficult it will be to bring him, but we believe that he may want to be close to the Brazilian national team, to return home, to the club where he stood out. I have a close relationship with him. We have drawn up an initial document with the English club, without an offer yet, but asking if they would like to negotiate.”

Richarlison has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Everton in a deal worth £60 million in July 2022. The South American attacker rose in prominence during his short stint with Fulham before arriving in England in 2017 and spending a season with Watford. The player’s stock soared during his spell with Everton before Tottenham came calling two and a half years ago.

However, poor form and fitness issues have blighted the 27-year-old during his spell with Tottenham. Injury woes have been the running theme this season, with the former Everton star managing only 173 minutes of game time across seven appearances in all competitions.

However, Richarlison’s stock in the market remains high, with Fluminense vying for his signature. The Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A heavyweights want to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as they hope to be competitive in the competition.

Bittencourt’s comments are promising for Fluminense, even though Tottenham’s current stance is not to sell the 27-year-old. With the North London outfit willing to listen to offers, Fluminense might feel they might clinch a deal for the injury-riddled Brazilian international.
