Danny Simpson has urged Manchester United to re-sign Wilfried Zaha in the summer when the 30-year-old becomes a free agent.

Wilfried Zaha is winding down his Crystal Palace contract, and so far, the club have not managed to find a solution to extend his stay. The winger could become a valuable asset in the transfer market when the summer window opens, with plenty of high-profile teams likely to revisit their interest.

Zaha has interest from European clubs, but he could look for a stay in England and join one of the top-six sides to further his career. The 30-year-old winger wanted a move away, with Arsenal coming close to signing him in 2019. Crystal Palace’s demands scuppered a potential move to the Emirates.

Arsenal then signed Nicolas Pepe from Lille. Zaha has since stayed at Selhurst Park but may be open to an opportunity to play for a bigger side. The Gunners remain interest, with Chelsea also in the hunt.

Manchester United was his big move earlier. But after a season of failed expectations at Old Trafford, the Ivorian then decided to return to Selhurst Park. With the 30-year-old winger nearing free agency, a chance to make a big move is on the horizon for Zaha.

Chelsea and Arsenal remain interested in the Ivory Coast international, with the Gunners, in particular, likely to look for good deals in the market. Mikel Arteta is likely to invest heavily in midfield signings, and the same goes with Chelsea.

Spending heavily on new attackers may not fit the agenda of those London clubs, meaning a cheap deal for Zaha may look appealing. The same applies to Manchester United, who lack experienced talents in their attacking setup.

Danny Simpson has now urged Manchester United to consider re-signing Zaha in the summer. His comments appeared on The Sun, where he suggested Zaha could allow Marcus Rashford to play more centrally next season.

Simpson said, “He [Zaha] can go wherever he likes, especially on a free transfer in the summer. I feel like Wilf plays better when he is the main man. “I would bring him back here [Man Utd]. If you’re looking at Marcus Rashford as the No.9 and Wilfried on the left, that is some firepower.”

“It was Sir Alex Ferguson who signed him, then he left. Moyes obviously came in, and it didn’t work out. I do genuinely believe if Sir Alex was the manager when he played we would have seen a different Wilfried Zaha at Manchester United.”

Manchester United surprised everyone without making high-profile signings in January. The Red Devils did bring Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer on loan. But they are not considered long-term options. Erik ten Hag will look into the market for high-profile singings, but their financial capabilities have come under scrutiny.

A signing like Zaha could help Manchester United reinforce the attack at a low cost. It will allow ten Hag to invest significantly in other crucial areas of the squad. A new midfielder and a striker could arrive at Old Trafford, with the manager planning the next phase of his rebuild.
