Manchester United urged to immediately replace Erik ten Hag with Jose Mourinho

Former Tottenham man and presenter Jamie O’Hara has suggested that Manchester United appoint Jose Mourinho immediately.

The 4-0 loss away to Crystal Palace has given rise to the most illogical suggestions from around, including a possible return for Jose Mourinho. Many sitting in their hot seat in the media publications have taken time to give their two cents on the Manchester United managerial situation, with some absurdity also making its way into mainstream channels.

For instance, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara has urged Manchester United to sack Erik ten Hag immediately and replace him with former Chelsea, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho for the remaining four games of the season.

O’Hara ‘s comments on talkSPORT via Give Me Sport insisted such an appointment would rattle the likes of Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola in the time remaining this season, as both managers are still to face Manchester United in the Premier League and FA Cup, respectively.

As absurd as it sounds, here’s what O’Hara said, “Get Jose in for four games; that can’t go on, Pep and Arteta would be thinking, ‘Oh, here we go’, do it, Manchester United.”

There has been plenty of talk of Manchester United wanting to sack Erik ten Hag for some time as the Dutchman continued to witness his side’s abject performances. Is it wise enough to suggest Mourinho’s name in the mix? Manchester United have seen links to many names, but they are not clearly taking any action about their managerial situation.

For instance, Liverpool knew that Jurgen Klopp would leave, and they have taken active measures to find a replacement. Despite some failures to lure their top targets, the Reds have settled for Arne Slot, with the Dutchman set to take over the reins in the summer.

Despite multiple rumours, INEOS have not indicated their desire to part ways with ten Hag. They may want to give the Dutch tactician time to turn things around until the end of the campaign. But after the loss to Palace, things are not looking great, especially with the FA Cup final on the horizon.

As for former Chelsea, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho taking over from Erik ten Hag, Manchester United are unlikely to even read this comment from O’Hara. The bridges with the Portuguese tactician have been burnt long ago, and the Red Devils are unlikely to re-build that relationship, let alone appoint him on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.

Should they sack ten Hag in the summer, INEOS will undoubtedly have a strong list of candidates, which is unlikely to include Mourinho.
