Alan Brazil has urged his former club Manchester United to appoint Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager.
The future of Erik ten Hag has been the talk of the town for a while now. The former Ajax boss who took charge of the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 hasn’t been able to get the desired results this season. And, his team’s disappointing performances could result in him getting sacked at the end of the season.
As per multiple reports, United are on the lookout for a new boss and their former striker Alan Brazil feels Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi could be an ideal fit for the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United
Ten Hag had a great first season at the club as United finished third and ended up winning the EFL Cup. He was expected to take the team to the next level this season. Despite having spent a fortune on player transfers, the team’s performances haven’t improved and they have gone down to sixth in the Premier League.
Qualifying for the Champions League no longer looks like a possibility. His team’s overall performances and his questionable recruitment have put him under a lot of pressure. Reports suggest that the players already feel that he will be sacked at the end of the season.
United are on the lookout for a new manager
Ever since the new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS took full control of the club’s sporting decisions, they have been on the lookout for a new manager in case they decide to part ways with Ten Hag.
With the Dutch manager’s departure increasingly likely, Graham Potter has been considered the leading candidate for the job. But, Alan Brazil feels he is not the ideal fit for the club and they should look at Roberto De Zerbi instead.
Alan Brazil while speaking on talkSPORT said: “No. I don’t think he’d be a good fit for Manchester United because I think he’ll need to go somewhere else after the disappointment at Chelsea.
“I don’t think he’ll come into the running for Manchester United because I don’t think it’s a good look for them taking a manager who’s been sacked at Chelsea. De Zerbi, I think he could do a job there.”
Brazil has urged United to push for the services of De Zerbi who is on the radar of Liverpool. The Reds are also on the lookout for a new boss with Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season. The Merseyside are considering having him on their bench.
Meanwhile, Brighton is fit for United as he has a track record of developing young players and that is exactly what the new part-owners want. But, it will be interesting to see if they do end up pushing for the Italian boss.
