Frank Lampard’s reign as the Chelsea manager was off to a disappointing start as the Blues were handed a 4-0 hammering by rivals Manchester United.
Chelsea began the game much stronger than their opponents, but failed to convert that dominance into goals as Tammy Abraham struck the post early on in the game. Manchester United grew into the game and were ahead after Kurt Zouma fouled Marcus Rashford in the box, who made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Chelsea came close after United’s opener, with Ross Barkley drawing a save from David de Gea while Emerson struck the woodwork again, before forcing de Gea into a save early in the second half. However, two quick goals from Anthony Martial and Rashford killed their hopes of a comeback, before United new boy Daniel James added a fourth late on.
It wasn’t the managerial bow that Lampard would’ve imagined, but despite the scoreline, Chelsea had a lot of positives to take away from the game with Emerson impressing, while Mason Mount looked good as well. And here’s how the Blues’ supporters reacted to the result on social media;
A lot of fans showed their support to the manager after the disappointing defeat.

The inexperience in Chelsea’s team is undisputed, including Lampard.#MUNCHE pic.twitter.com/RimL05UTVX

This wont make me loose Faith in Lampard.. Bad day at the office, wont judge him by his first game.. Lets see how we recover from this… Bluess for Life

It’s just our first game! We need to stay positive we all knew this season will be hard with the transfer ban! Frank will learn from the errors! But our defence is really not good at all! Thanks to the travelling fans for singing ‘super Frank’ when we were 3-0 down! #KTBFFH ?

The score line doesn’t represent this game but that’s football, too many mistakes but it’s the first game of the season, under a transfer ban, at united. Judge Frank and the team at the end of the season now one game.

Criticisms were leveled at the Chelsea defence that struggled against the pacy Manchester United attack. Kurt Zouma especially was in for some ire from the Blues’ supporters after a disastrous outing on the opening day.
– N’Golo Kanté
– Antonio Rüdiger
– Callum Hudson-Odoi
– Ruben Loftus-Cheek
– Reece JamesLITERALLY have no words to explain how much I want these to return to the team fully fit as soon as possible. We didn’t deserve the 4-0 loss, but it was a shambolic defensive performance.

Simply put:
Rudiger and Kante need to hurry up and sure up this defensive unit, we need them.
We’ve been unlucky and should of been couple goals up, but once the 2nd went in heads really dropped.
Its going to be a VERY VERY long season if we keep defending like we do ffs ?

I doubt that mate. Self Inflicated mistakes. We need to sort out our defence. First game of the season, we shall be alright. The future is bright.

Our defence. Rudiger we need you. #MUNCHE pic.twitter.com/lSCR4jfNII

No point blaming Lampard. Yeah, the line up was poor but he literally pushed Luiz out for Zouma, and Zouma did absolutely nothing to justify that.
Even Guardiola couldn’t manage this squad. Stop blaming the manager, season after season, and open your eyes. For once.

Zouma’s football is like if Lukaku played defence
— freebobbyshmurda (@arianna__may) August 11, 2019
Zouma can’t handle the press and definetly cannot play in the team that build from back

Take From Today’s match…
-Christensen and zouma should never partner again except they switch sides.
-Cesar will always struggle against any counter attacking team. He needs a pacey CB Ruidger or Zouma to play next to him. #MUNCHE— Seyi Olawale (@oloba29) August 11, 2019
Zouma used to be solid and promising. I wonder what happened. The injury or playing at Everton?
— JIGGY. (@DoyinOlagunju) August 11, 2019
Can we just put it out there that Kurt Zouma is not up to the level to start for Chelsea
— Yehuda Rosenfelder (@rozie_y) August 11, 2019
First 15 minutes was solid. And Zouma needs to be off next game. Mans a liability.
