Liverpool urged to sign Toni Kroos

Liverpool have been urged by Paul Robinson to make a move for Toni Kroos in the January transfer market, claiming it will be a good deal for the Reds.

In an interview with Football Insider, Paul Robinson has opined on the recent rumours linking Toni Kroos with Liverpool. The former goalkeeper has urged the Reds to launch the offensive for the Real Madrid ace, claiming he is the kind of player they desperately need on board at Anfield at the moment.

Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best ever players in the club’s history. A mainstay in midfield ever since he first stepped foot at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the 31-year-old forging a formidable midfield partnership along with Luka Modric and Casemiro.

To date, Kroos has made 323 appearances for Real Madrid while chipping in with 22 goals and 80 assists in the process. All through the last seven years, he has played a key role in the immense success Los Blancos have enjoyed, particularly in Europe.

However, recent reports have suggested that Kroos’s place in the Real Madrid midfield might not be too secure at the moment. There have been claims that Liverpool are plotting a potential cut-price move for the German international, with the transfer fee only likely to be in the region of £20 million.

Now, reacting to those recent links, Paul Robinson has had his say about Liverpool potentially swooping Kroos away from Real Madrid. The former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has claimed that the 31-year-old is just the kind of player the Reds should be buying at the moment.

“Kroos is the type of player Liverpool are shopping for at the moment, that place in the market. They have not got the finances and the resources to compete with the other big clubs. Toni Kroos is 31 but the way he plays, you will get another four years out of him. At £20million, it would be a good price. He’s a fabulous player.”

“I think Liverpool are light in that area of their squad. They massively miss [Georginio] Wijnaldum. He played almost every game last year. If they can get a player of Toni Kroos quality in January though… What is £20million in this day and age for a player of Kroos’ quality. That is a deal that would be good for Liverpool.”

Robinson is not incorrect in his assessment to a great extent, as Liverpool could well do with some creativity from midfield, seeing as most of their moves flow through the wide areas, where Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson operate. So, with that in mind, signing someone like Kroos from Real Madrid could work out well for Liverpool.
