Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak in January, as he considers the Swede the perfect solution for the short and long-term future.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly seriously considering the possibility of signing attacking talents in the upcoming windows. Liverpool are yet to solve their forwards’ futures, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino set to enter the final year of their respective contracts in the summer.
The more pressing issue would come in January when Liverpool will lose Salah and Mane for up to a month as they will represent their nations at the Africa Cup of Nations. Their absence would certainly hurt the Reds in the Premier League title race as Klopp has burdened them with scoring the bulk of the goals for his side.
A foray into the transfer market seems to be one of the solutions Klopp might consider, with at least one signing understandably in the pipeline. The Liverpool manager did not spend much money on players apart from Ibrahima Konate; meanwhile, Divock Origi’s future remains doubtful.
Alexander Isak has been mentioned as a possible signing in the January transfer window, although Liverpool face intense competition from other high profile Premier League sides. The 22-year-old Real Sociedad striker has been in a good run of form and has backed up his reputation by starting the current season rather brightly.
Former Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique backs the idea of Isak playing for the club while urging the Reds to make a move for the Swede. The Spaniard, understanding the current circumstances Klopp’s side is going through, suggested the Real Sociedad man is ideal for their short and long-term future. He explained to The Metro what the 22-year-old striker could bring to the club, urging the Reds to make a move.
Enrique said, “For me, I know January is a difficult transfer window because sometimes people buy in panic. But definitely, I would go for one player who can play across the front three. I love Isak from Real Sociedad; I think they should have signed him in the summer before he signed a new deal with Sociedad.”
“Now will be difficult, but if they go with the right amount of money, definitely he is a player, he’s 22, a big lad, quick, strong, good one vs one, can play on the wings as well as a number nine, he defends.”
“There’s a lot of options out there, don’t get me wrong, but he is one of the main options for me. Isak is definitely perfect for Liverpool’s profile of signings, a young player, not spending 100’s of millions you’re going to spend £50-60m, definitely I would go for him.”
Whether Liverpool approach La Liga outfit Real Sociedad for a move for Isak remains to be seen. However, with the 22-year-old Swedish striker impressing in La Liga and for his national side, signing him could be a step in the right direction for Liverpool.
