Liverpool the best team in Europe, claims Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool are the best team in Europe at the moment and suggested the Reds have an advantage over Manchester City.

Liverpool have shown massive character in the Premier League title race, as they sit just a point behind leaders Manchester City. At one stage, it did seem like Pep Guardiola’s men will race away at the top, but the Reds managed to capitalise on some dropped points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are on a ten-game winning run in the Premier League and face Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday. The Reds were tipped to win the title long before they closed down the gap, and the clash with Guardiola’s side is already billed as a potential Premier League decider.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are on course to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals after dispatching Benfica away from home. Former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann insists Klopp’s side have the advantage over their European rivals this season.

His comments appeared on Sport Witness via Sky Germany, as Hamann claimed Liverpool are the best team in Europe based on their performances and singling out Virgil van Dijk as a possible reason.

Hamann said, “Liverpool is the best team in Europe. Liverpool FC celebrated a commanding victory in a 3:1 win in Lisbon. They have the best defence, an incredibly strong offence. Defensive leader Virgil van Dijk wins duels and leads the team. He does exactly that and represents exactly what FC Bayern lacks.”

“Right now, Liverpool is the best team in Europe. Manchester City had to be patient against Atletico, they did well and won 1-0, but their game is very monotonous.”

Hamann then suggested Liverpool may have an advantage over Manchester City ahead of their clash at the Etihad. He continued, “I think Liverpool are much more variable, and I also see them having the advantage on Sunday in the top match of the Premier League, even though Manchester City are playing at home.”

Liverpool are tipped to win the quadruple as they remain in firm contention for all trophies this season. They face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final while remaining in the Premier League title race, and they are one of the favourites to lift the Champions League. The Reds also beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, clinching their first trophy this term.
