Second half goals from star men Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah fired Liverpool to an important win against top-four hopefuls Chelsea on Sunday.
Liverpool reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League table, as they recorded their first win in seven Premier League meetings against Chelsea at Anfield, beating Maurizio Sarri’s men 2-0.
In what was a pulsating encounter, Liverpool had the better of the chances in the first period, but Mohamed Salah fired his effort straight at Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Sadio Mane’s shot drifted just wide off the mark. Eden Hazard came close for Chelsea, but failed to beat Alisson Becker from a tight angle.
Liverpool began the second half with much more purpose and it reaped instant rewards, as Mane headed in Jordan Henderson’s cross in the 51st minute to make it 1-0. Two minutes later, Liverpool had doubled their lead, courtesy of a stunning long-range strike from Salah.
Chelsea threatened a comeback, as Hazard hit the upright soon after before forcing Alisson Becker into a save, but Liverpool did well to take the sting out of the game and hold out for an important win.
Having slipped down to the second spot after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier in the day, the Reds moved back to the summit of the Premier League, sparking fans into celebration as they took a step closer towards their first league title in 29 years;
The football in that second-half was something else.
Every player in a Red shirt turned up and gave it their all, they know what it means.
Whatever happens, be proud of this Liverpool team. It’s only the beginning.

Salah was the toast of the Liverpool fans as he scored a sensational goal against his former club. The Egyptian controlled Virgil van Dijk’s long pass with a great first-touch, before cutting in from the right flank to fire a fierce effort from distance, leaving Kepa no chance to stop the strike.
