Kepa Arrizabalga hopes ‘legendary’ club Real Madrid makes his loan move permanent at the end of the season.
Nobody in their right mind would have envisaged Kepa Arrizabalaga speaking to the media as a Real Madrid player at the start of the window. Surprisingly, only a few thought the Spanish giants would go for him to solve their goalkeeping problem, but here it is.
Kepa made the switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid on a loan deal without any option or obligation attached to the agreement. For the Blues, it frees up their wage bill considerably and allows Mauricio Pochettino to integrate new arrival Robert Sanchez as his no.1.
Before Kepa’s move to Real Madrid, the Spaniard was considered the obvious choice to start the season as Chelsea’s No.1. Now, he will begin the campaign as Real Madrid’s first-choice option between the sticks after an unfortunate injury to Thibaut Courtois.
In truth, Real Madrid have acquired Kepa to help them manoeuvre through a troubled period. There are low chances of them making the move permanent, especially if Courtois returns unscathed following extensive rehabilitation on his knee injury.

However, Kepa hopes that Real Madrid will sign him permanently if he performs well during his time at the Spanis capital. On his tweet, Fabrizio Romano ran comments from the keeper during his unveiling at the La Liga side.

The chances of that happening are slim from one angle, as Real Madrid may not intend to do so once Courtois returns. That’s probably why they did not pursue a move for David De Gea despite links to the former Manchester United star.
They may not want a long-term commitment with either star and firmly believe Courtois will remain between the sticks for a long time. The financial implications of signing either would have proved costly for Real Madrid, considering the wages they will command.
Hence, the loan move for Kepa without any strings attached makes sense for Real Madrid, rather than signing De Gea on a long-term deal. Fans and Kepa will certainly hope he has a tremendous season in the Spanish Capital to help Real Madrid propel to new heights.
