Jorge Messi speaks about Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona

Jorge Messi has said that he is hoping to see his son, Lionel Messi, returning to Barcelona one day amid uncertainties surrounding his future with PSG.

As quoted by Spanish publication SPORT, Jorge Messi has spoken about Lionel Messi’s future and a possible return to Barcelona, saying he hopes to see his son move back to Camp Nou one day. The Argentine international faces an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain amid claims from recent reports pointing towards a summer exit.

During a recent visit to Barcelona, Jorge Messi greeted reporters at the airport before commenting on Lionel Messi’s future, saying, “I hope Leo can return to Barcelona, one day.”

Lionel Messi spent over two decades at FC Barcelona, where he progressed leaps and bounds to establish himself as arguably the best player in the game. The 34-year-old won numerous trophies during his days at Camp Nou and is one of the most successful players of all time.

While success at the international level has largely eluded the Argentine international, bar last year’s Copa America triumph, he won every trophy he contested multiple times during his stint with Barcelona. But the unthinkable happened last year when Messi’s contract with Barcelona expired.

The Blaugrana could not tie Messi down to a new contract due to their financial crisis, which had crippled their budget considerably. The veteran forward subsequently moved to Paris Saint-Germain, who thought he was the final piece of the puzzle to win the elusive UEFA Champions League crown.

But PSG’s elimination from the Champions League in the Round of 16 has left Messi’s future up in the air, with recent reports linking him with a return to Barcelona. Former teammate Dani Alves has also urged Messi to move back to Camp Nou for “one last dance”.

But Joan Laporta has ruled out re-signing Messi in the summer transfer window, meaning Messi is unlikely to return to Barcelona this year. But Jorge Messi’s comments could give Barcelona fans a ray of hope, especially with Lionel Messi’s position at PSG being precarious.

However, recent reports have claimed that Messi will honour his two-year contract with PSG before taking a more decisive call on his future next year. And with the 34-year-old showing signs of a revival, a move away from PSG to return to Barcelona in the summer appears unlikely.
