Liverpool did well to improve their midfield options in the summer transfer window, but Jermaine Pennant wants them to add Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone.

Liverpool struggled in the middle of the park last season, and they needed to bring in quality players. They have done so with the additions of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo. The Reds also chased players like Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone.

Those are the two players that former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes (h/t TEAMtalk) that the Reds should look to bring in more quality in the coming months. He has urged Liverpool to sign Thuram and Kone.

“I’d like to see Liverpool sign a proper enforcer in January. For me, that player would be Manu Kone. I think he would be a great number six and encourage Mac Allister to move further forward,” Pennant said.

“Kone would be the icing on the cake, and so would Khephren Thuram – I’ve always been a huge fan of his. He may not play as a 6, but you could make it work. If we can get them in January, then we’re looking at a boss midfield!”

“Those two could win Liverpool the Champions League. Having Kone and Thuram in there would elevate Liverpool’s midfield to being up there with the very best. Add in the forward five, and the likes of Virgil [van Dijk], Trent [Alexander-Arnold], and Alisson in the back, and that’s an unbelievable side.”

Both players have done quite well for their respective clubs, and they could prove to be quality acquisitions for Liverpool. Thuram was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window, but he ended up staying at OGC Nice.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to resurrect their interest in the Frenchman during the January transfer window. Thuram has the attributes to develop into a quality box-to-box midfielder, and he will add defensive cover and creativity to the Liverpool midfield.

It is evident that they need to bring in a quality young defensive midfielder, and Kone would be the ideal acquisition for them. He has shown his quality in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach and will add defensive cover to the Liverpool midfield.

The opportunity to join Liverpool will be an attractive option for both French midfielders who are valued at close to a combined £95 million. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to spend that kind of money on the two players and sign them during the January transfer window.

It is highly unlikely that Liverpool will spend on both players and they are likely to shortlist one of them. Both players have the talent and potential to develop into important first-team stars for Liverpool and working under a manager like Jurgen Klopp will help them develop further.
