Marcus Rashford failed to find the back of the net against Newcastle United, and his body language was quite disappointing as well, which Jermaine Jenas picked up on.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has slammed the Manchester United striker. Jenas pointed that the England international’s body language was shocking throughout the game and he never looked like trying to make things happen for his side. He also criticised Rashford for his poor workrate.
He said via Sun, “I think it was poor, I think his body language was shocking throughout the game, I really do. There have been too many moments like this and throwing his arms about. I think he is sending a message to his manager almost like ‘I don’t want to play out here’. He is looking at [Alejandro] Garnacho on the left, and it’s criminal putting your team under that type of pressure by not doing your duties as a wide man and tracking back.”
“It’s clear as well, [Tino] Livramento knows that he does not want to go with him. He’s never there and it’s time and time again. He has no interest in tracking him back and [Harry] Maguire and [Luke] Shaw are constantly coming to the rescue due to the ineptitude of the wide players.”
Manchester United were comfortably outplayed by Newcastle, and the Magpies deserved all three points in the end. With the chips down, players like Rashford were expected to step up and make things happen for Manchester United. However, Rashford was quite poor and he will have to improve in the coming weeks.
The England international has not been able to hit top form this season, and the Manchester United manager was critical of his performance after the game as well. However, Erik ten Hag chose not to criticise the striker publicly and revealed that he will have a chat with Rashford regarding his performance in closed quarters.
Rashford was outstanding for Manchester United last season, and he was one of the best players in the Premier League. However, his form has dipped significantly this season, and he has looked like a shadow of his former self. Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Rashford has invited criticism for a poor performance this season.
