Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside club in the last few months.
Former Arsenal man Jeremie Aliadiere has now urged the Gunners to sign 25-year-old Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez. The Gunners could certainly use more quality and depth in the offensive unit, and the Uruguay international would be a quality addition for them.
Aliadiere said via Football365, “I know he is at Liverpool but I am a massive fan of Darwin Nunez. Absolutely mad fan of the guy because I love his work ethic, his runs, and his determination and I wish we had a player like him at Arsenal.
“I remember in the summer there were some talks about him coming to Arsenal. That excited me because I’d love to see him with us. “That type of player keeps bothering defenders, making runs in behind, stretching the defence, even though it’s not for him, it’s for the team, the others get massive rewards from it.
“I know people will say he needs five chances to score sometimes, he is not the best finisher, I am not bothered about this. For me, the effort and the work rate and the drama that he causes is worth everything.”
Even though Darwin Nunez has had his share of criticism since the move to the Premier League, his numbers have been quite impressive for Liverpool. The Uruguayan international has been a very useful option in the final third for the Reds, and his ability to slot into multiple roles makes him an asset for the club.
However, Nunez is not a clinical goalscorer, and his tendency to miss goalscoring opportunities can be a bit frustrating. The player is still only 25 and there is plenty of time for him to grow. He could develop into a world-class striker with the right guidance.
Gabriel Jesus has been quite underwhelming for Arsenal and Kai Havertz is not a natural goalscorer. Arsenal need to invest in a reliable striker in the coming months. It will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for Darwin Nunez. However, they have also shown interest in other strikers, including Alexander Isak.
Liverpool unlikely to sanction Arsenal move
The Uruguay international is an important first-team player for Liverpool, and it would be quite surprising if they decide to sanction his departure, especially to a direct rival.
Even if Liverpool end up selling the 25-year-old, they will not want to strengthen their title rivals, and they would prefer to sell the player abroad. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Arsenal will be hoping to win the league title this season, and they need to plug the gaps in their squad. Signing a reliable finisher in January could make a huge difference for them.
