Jamie Carragher slams Arne Slot for Liverpool mess, calls for Florian Wirtz to be dropped

Florian Wirtz has had a mediocre start to life in the Premier League, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Arne Slot to take him out of the firing line.

Florian Wirtz has not been able to hit top form since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window. The German international was expected to add goals and creativity to the side, but he has not been able to do that at the desired level.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that the Reds are in a mess right now and that Florian Wirtz should be dropped. It will be interesting to see if Arne Slot is willing to take the German international out of the team for now.

“Right now I don’t think the balance of the team is right and the obvious one that stands out is Florian Wirtz. He’s just not at the races at all. He’s a young boy coming into a new league – he has got plenty of time to go as a Liverpool player but right now I think he needs to come out of the team, Liverpool go back to what they were last season and then go from there and build some confidence, build some defensive solidity. Because right now it is a mess. It’s not the losses, it is not the defeats. This has been coming from day one.”

There is no doubt that Florian Wirtz is a tremendous talent with a bright future, and he could develop into a quality player for Liverpool in the coming seasons. The Premier League champions will have to be patient with him and give him more opportunities to adapt to English football.

Wirtz has shown his quality at times, and there is no doubt that he will only improve with experience. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can adjust their system to get the best out of him.

Also, the summer signing is not the only one to blame for Liverpool’s recent struggles. Most of their players have underperformed, and they will need to improve collectively. Laying the blame on the German midfielder is harsh and unjustified.

Wirtz is still quite young, and he is adapting to a new club and a new league. The amount of money Liverpool paid for him has put him under tremendous pressure, but the Premier League champions will have to be reasonable with their expectations in the first few weeks of the season.
