Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed that Harry Kane is on a collision course with Tottenham amid links with Manchester City.
In his feature for Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has furiously hit out at Harry Kane amid widespread rumours suggesting he missed pre-season training with Tottenham. The England captain is being heavily linked with Manchester City over a move in the summer transfer window.
The Harry Kane saga has been proving to be the most captivating story of the summer transfer window, at least before news of Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona hit. Nevertheless, Kane’s future at Tottenham remains up in the air, with a summer move to Manchester City likely.
Things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse this week, as news broke out that Kane was AWOL after having been due to report for pre-season training. Initial suggestions pointed towards the star striker angling towards forcing his way out of Tottenham and on to Manchester City.
Since the initial hype, though, it has emerged that Kane was missing in action as he had been in isolation following the end of his holidays. However, that has not stopped Manchester United legend, Gary Neville to make some major claims about the 28-year-old and his actions.
Neville said, “If Harry Kane was meant to report to pre-season training with Tottenham on Monday, then he should’ve come back. You can never advocate any player not turning up for training – it’s as simple as that. You’ve got to turn up and you’ve got to do your job. However, I’ve worked with Harry and I can’t think of a more professional footballer that I’ve ever seen.”
“He does everything right, so he must be seriously annoyed. Something has happened badly that has made him do that. It still doesn’t excuse it for me. He should still have come into training, and you respect your team-mates. You still have to go and stand with them and sit in the dressing-room, but it’s clear now that there’s a collision course.”
“They were on collision course already at the end of last season when Harry clearly felt something was happening and he’s taken Daniel Levy on. Not many do it, and not many come out the other side, but it’ll be interesting to see which clubs are involved. It looks like Manchester City, and they’ve clearly made a bid that’s not enough for Spurs. Harry thinks it is enough while Daniel doesn’t think it is. Hopefully they can come to a compromise but whether they do remains to be seen.”
Neville’s comments do ring true to some extent, although if claims about Kane’s isolation are true then there might not be any reason to create a huge hue and cry. As the transfer saga continues to develop, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City can sign him from Tottenham this summer.
