Gary Neville believes Chelsea will be ‘very difficult to stop’ as he spoke about their chances of winning the Premier League title.
Gary Neville believes Chelsea are real title contenders this season after a terrific start to the season. The Blues swept aside Aston Villa during the latest matchday, lifting them back to the summit on the table. Romelu Lukaku scored a brace while Matteo Kovacic got a rare goal.
Apart from the winning start, Chelsea have shown a great deal of promise in attack and defence, scoring nine goals and conceding just once, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Thomas Tuchel has polished the squad and made them real challengers for the Premier League title and retain the Champions League crown.
The Blues will face considerable challenges with time, but many are convinced of their quality to come out on top. One reason for this prediction would be the signing of Lukaku, who has made the club considerably strong. The Belgian striker has three strikes from as many games.
Neville hailed the signing while also tipping Chelsea to challenge the likes of Manchester City, United and Liverpool for the Premier League crown. Football London posted some of Neville’s comments from his podcast with Sky Sports.
Neville said, “Chelsea again just looked robotic, methodical. When he scored that first goal, Lukaku, I just thought it’s ominous. There’s a feeling about Chelsea – clean sheets, the strikers scoring, guaranteed, players in behind them, the midfield, that they’re going to be very difficult to stop.
“The talk will be all about Manchester. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United, but Chelsea, everyone knows they’re serious. We’ve watched them now two or three times this season. I watched them at Anfield against Liverpool; they’re just a good team. Good at Arsenal; they have Tottenham next week away from home, which will be interesting.
“It’s a brilliant Premier League, and I’m looking forward to what is going to come in the next few months. We have to let it develop. Everyone is trying to predict the title this early on: Are Man United going to win the title, City, Chelsea? But Liverpool are really in it [the race for the title], they really are in it.”
Tuchel has made Chelsea a formidable force, and the team showed their strength, particularly in the game against Liverpool, holding off for a result with a man down. However, getting wins in stronger games will go a long way to back the claims behind their title challenges. Will Chelsea win the Premier League title this season?
