Gary Neville has urged Arsenal to sign Julian Alvarez before the transfer deadline, stating that the Argentine international would add some much-needed magic.
Arsenal remain active in the transfer market as they look to sign attacking players, but they find themselves in a difficult position regarding the availability of their key targets. Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in a left-sided attacker, although the club have so far been unable to identify a suitable option apart from Christos Tzolis, who would replace Leandro Trossard.
Recently, David Ornstein reported that Arsenal were in discussions with Al-Hilal over the sale of Gabriel Martinelli. If the Brazilian departs, the Gunners will need to find a replacement during the final stage of the transfer window.
Beyond the left-wing position, Arsenal have also been linked with an ambitious move for Julian Alvarez, amid reports that they have revived their interest in the 26-year-old World Cup winner.
Gary Neville urges Arsenal to seal Alvarez move
Neville believes Alvarez would add “a bit of magic up front” and has urged Arsenal to go all out to sign the Argentine international. His comments on Sky Sports clearly indicated his desire for the Gunners to bring in the Atletico Madrid forward, with Neville suggesting that the 26-year-old could help Arsenal win the Champions League.
Neville said, “What a squad [Mikel Arteta] has built. If he puts another forward into that, if they could get Julian Alvarez somehow, that would light this place up as you’d have a world-class striker to go with all the world-class defenders and midfielders.
“They wouldn’t just become Premier League title winners they’d go the next step and win a Champions League. It’s a massive 10 days. He needs a bit of magic up front – someone that can win a game for you when you don’t play well.”
Alvarez situation unclear
Reports about Alvarez’s situation and his potential move to Arsenal remain conflicting. The main indication is that the 26-year-old World Cup winner would prefer to join Barcelona if given the opportunity, with the Catalan club reportedly preparing a final attempt to convince Atletico Madrid to sell.
Arsenal have been interested in Alvarez for some time but have yet to make significant progress in their pursuit. One recent report claimed that the Argentine had rejected the idea of joining the Gunners, while other reports suggest that he could be open to the move.
Only time will provide a clearer picture of Alvarez’s next steps. Arsenal appear ready to act if the slightest opportunity emerges, but if Barcelona make a similar approach, the South American attacker would seemingly favour a move to Camp Nou. For now, the situation remains more open than some reports suggest. As Neville stated, the 26-year-old World Cup winner could be a game-changer for Arsenal.
