Jude Bellingham was linked with a number of clubs before his move to Real Madrid, and Frank Lampard wanted him at Chelsea.
Frank Lampard has revealed on the ‘Obi One Podcast’ that Chelsea blocked his attempts to sign Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham a few years ago. The Englishman has established himself as one of the best young players in the world, and he is undoubtedly a world-class talent. He could have been a sensational acquisition for the Blues had they signed him a few years ago.
Lampard said, “When I was managing at Chelsea (first time) I was desperate to bring Jude Bellingham in. But I couldn’t get it through upstairs – the idea of paying £20m for someone his age (at the time).”
The Englishman completed a big-money move to Real Madrid this past summer, and he has already established himself as an indispensable asset for them. The midfielder has 13 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid, and he will be hoping to help them win major trophies this season.
The England international is designed to develop into a future superstar, and Chelsea will certainly regret their decision to not sign him.

Lampard helped nurture talented young players during his time at Chelsea and he could have helped Bellingham develop into a key player for the Blues as well. Chelsea could certainly use a goalscoring midfielder like him right now. He would have added goals, creativity and drive to the side.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have spent substantial amounts of money on new midfielders over the past year, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the best out of those signings. Chelsea finished 12th in the league table last season and will be desperate to get back into the UEFA Champions League once again.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back strongly and get back to their best once again. As for Bellingham, he will be delighted with his start to life at Real Madrid and will look to build on his impressive form and win trophies with the Spanish club this season.
